I believe good psychiatric care starts with careful diagnosis. Treatment decisions are made collaboratively, with attention to both the scientific evidence and your individual goals, values, and circumstances.

Our philosophy
“Good psychiatric care is slow work. It asks for room to listen, time to think, and a physician who will remain with you across years, not appointments.”

About Dr. Chao
Dr. Chao is a board-certified adult psychiatrist who completed her psychiatry residency at Kaiser Permanente, where she also served as Chief Resident. Her training included outpatient, inpatient, county, and integrated healthcare settings, allowing her to work with patients from a wide range of backgrounds and life circumstances.
She chose psychiatry because emotional health affects nearly every part of a person’s life. When people feel more grounded, understand themselves more clearly, and are better able to manage their moods and emotions, they often have greater freedom to pursue their relationships, ambitions, and the life they want to build. Helping patients reach that point is what she finds most meaningful about her work.
Dr. Chao is drawn to the combination of intellectual problem-solving and genuine human connection that psychiatry requires. She enjoys carefully examining how symptoms, medical factors, life experiences, relationships, and environment fit together rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all explanation. She also believes patients deserve to understand the reasoning behind their diagnosis and treatment options.
Her approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and practical. She works with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, burnout, executive-function difficulties, women’s mental health concerns, and complex medication questions. Treatment is tailored to each patient’s circumstances, preferences, and goals, with an emphasis on helping patients feel better while also functioning more fully in their lives.
